Adobe Portable Document Format (.pdf)

This openly-documented binary file format [2] is natively used by Adobe Acrobat and other programs. Use of Acrobat is recommended for viewing / use of data encoded in this format. The technical note at [2] provides a detailed description of the binary format specification.

ZIP / ISO/IEC 21320-1:2015(E) Document Format (.zip)

This openly-documented binary file format [3] is widely used for encapsulation and compression of digital computer files. Use of an operating system decompressor is recommended to access files stored in this format.
